The Taste of Mango (Documentary)

Chloe Abrahams’ debut feature documentary about generational trauma is a delicate piece of work that will break your heart but in the most soothing way.

Given the subject matter, you’d think that there would be so much anger embedded into the film but Abrahams has written the most beautiful love letter to her mother.  At times, I found myself getting so frustrated and sorry for the Abrahams family’s inter-generational abuse, but Chloe has crafted such a masterful film that calms you.

The camcorder footages of her mother and grandmother throughout the film brought a homely feel, and brings you close and comfortable with the family. You’re not a fly on the wall, it’s Chloe’s point of view. You will feel her pain, her love, her anger.

This film is beautiful and seeing that it won awards at LFF and BIFF last year makes complete sense.  Personal documentary filmmaking at its finest.
